Our team is cross-functional, cross-regional, experienced and committed.

We are a global firm with local operations in three continents (Europe, North America and South America) working on assignments around the world. Our corporate finance professionals comprise a long track record as accountants, lawyers, tax consultants, bankers, and business developers having worked for leading law and accounting firms, investment banks, corporate finance houses or in the industry.

Dr. Winfried Weigel

Winfried brings in more than 20 years experience in capital markets, corporate finance and private equity, having worked with leading investment banks in New York, London, Frankfurt and Zurich. He led various multi-billion dollar privatizations, mergers and acquisitions and participated in various large-scale IPOs and Public takeovers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Since founding weigelCF he advised on more than hundred transactions with a total transaction value of more than two billion dollars. He was also involved in forming various start-up companies, e.g. Telehouse Facilities AG, IntelliSite B.V., IX Europe plc, paybox Austria AG, Mobilkom Austria AG, Allamanda Networks AG, RCM Renewable Credit Management.

Winfried earned an undergraduate degree in Engineering from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and a Diplom-Kaufmann degree (MBA) from Frankfurt university. He also studied law and earned a LL.M. at the Institut for Law and Finance at Frankfurt university. He wrote is doctoral thesis on modern finance theory and was teaching Transaction Services at the University of St. Gall (HSG), the Federal Institute of Technology and the university of Zurich.

Before forming Weigel Corporate Finance, Winfried worked as an Executive Director and as a Managing Director at UBS Investment Banking in Zurich and Frankfurt, as an Executive Director at Warburg Dillon Read in London and as a Vice President at J.P. Morgan with postings in London, New York, and Prague.

Gustavo Weigel

South America

Gustavo Weigel is Head of the South America region. With more than twenty five years of international professional experience, he is mostly focused on M&A transactions, business valuations, investment projects and finance structuring. He led more than 100 deals and projects in different industries like banks, insurances, food and beverages, ports, logistics, agribusiness, renewable energies and real estate.

In 2000, Gustavo founded the South American arm Weigel Haller, in Montevideo, as a Corporate Finance Firm dedicated to advice companies and individuals to develop business projects in South America. Before starting his own business, he built up his career at Coopers & Lybrand, Price Waterhouse and in several Management and Board of Directors positions in multinational and regional companies.

Gustavo holds a CPA degree from the University of the Republica Oriental del Uruguay and has completed post-graduated business executive studies in Universidad de Montevideo.
Currently he integrates the Board of Directors of the Uruguayan-Germany Chamber of Commerce and is member of the US Chamber of Commerce and the Scandinavian Chamber of Commerce in Uruguay and is an active participant of other several entrepreneurial and civil organizations and forums.

As a Managing Director of Weigel Corporate Finance, Geoff is focused on cross border business, bringing Wall Street and Bay Street expertise to internationally focused business owners. Geoff focuses on traditional investment banking transactions including raising capital as well as traditional M&A services selling businesses or divisions, advising on acquisitions and rollups.

Geoff began his career in the late eightiess in the software and telecommunications sector and spent a number of years working with leading firms such as NBTel, Aliant Telecom as well as a number of technology joint ventures with Nortel Networks and Bell Canada. He went on to run international business development operations an International human resources consulting organization. Geoff joined an Investment Banking Group based on Bay Street in Toronto and eventually founded Pathpoint Capital Partners, an Investment Bank focused on the lower middle market before joining the Weigel Corporate Finance team. Geoff’s early enterprise experience in the high tech sector has been invaluable in dealing with clean technology and has a long standing belief that any technology must either solve a real world issue or a concrete economic problem or it should never be commercialized.

Geoff has a BSc from DeVry University in Phoenix, Arizona with a major in Operations Research and a Minor in Accounting. He enjoys sports and physical activity, is actively involved in the community and loves spending time with his wife and eight children. Geoff serves on the advisory board of Faithshire Leasing Corporation.

Carlos Haller

More than twenty five years of independent professional experience, mainly developed as business advisor, and through his participation in several M&A deals, negotiations and contract agreements specially in the real estate sector.

Rosana Bomba

Rosana Bomba holds a CPA degree from the University of the República Oriental del Uruguay and a post-graduate in Corporate Finance from the Catholic University of Uruguay. She has more than four-teen years of professional experience, previously to joined the Firm she worked for Deloitte. Rosana is highly knowledgeable in M&A deals, company valuations and investment projects development mainly in the logistics and agribusiness sectors.

Dr. Matthias Retter

Matthias is a sustainable finance professional with a previous career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He led the conceptualization and development of responsible investment frameworks for Swiss private banks, shaped new financial products for a Japanese bank and developed guidelines and analysis for financing bodies in Germany as well as one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world.

Since 2016 Matthias advises family offices and start-up companies on VC-transactions. Working together with PGGM, Aberdeen, Hermes, MN, Nordea and Rockefeller & Co, Matthias was the lead analyst and leader of consulting work of an investor engagement awarded by the White House in Washington under president Barack Obama as Top 1 private sector innovator. Matthias also collaborated with “the five largest Private Equity-houses of France” regarding sustainable investments.

Since 2016 Matthias led projects that covered procurement in access of CHF 11.5 billion. Since 2016 he serves in the finance committee of Foundation Academia Engelberg, an entity founded by Swiss Re, Zentralschweizer Regierungskonferenz and the municipality of Engelberg.
